Benytt muligheten til å høre en av verdens fremste ekspertene på alkohol- og narkotikapolitikk rettet mot ungdom - professor Zila Sanchez - holde foredrag om de nyeste funnene innen forebygging av tidlig alkohol- og narkotikabruk. Arrangementet er gratis og åpent for alle interesserte; ungdom, foreldre, lærere og andre.Foredraget holdes på engelsk, men ledes på norsk, og det vil være mulig å stille spørsmål til Sanchez, åpent eller anonymt.

“Jeg får besøk avprofessor Dr. Zila Sanchezfra 18. til 21. mai. Hun er leder for doktorgradsprogrammet i forebygging ved Federal University of São Paulo og en anerkjent spesialist på rus og alkohol blant ungdom.

Vi har et prosjekt sammen finansiert av NFR, og hun er en av de fremste ekspertene på alkohol- og narkotikapolitikk rettet mot ungdom. Hun leder Institutt for forebyggende medisin ved UNIFESP i Brasil, er sjefredaktør for Journal of Prevention (Springer Nature), sitter i styret for European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) og er medlem av WHOs tekniske rådgivningsgruppe for alkohol- og narkotikaepidemiologi samt FN. Hun har over 200 fagfellevurderte publikasjoner og har vært rådgiver for regjeringer og internasjonale organisasjoner.

Sanchez er også en fremragende formidler. Jeg vil derfor gjerne invitere deg, dine foreldre, lærere og andre som er interessert i temaet til etforedrag på engelsk. Sanchez vil holde et én times foredrag (se sammendraget nedenfor) om de nyeste funnene innen forebygging av tidlig alkohol- og narkotikabruk, og sette av én time til spørsmål og svar for foreldre og lærere.

Foredraget er på engelsk, men jeg vil prøve å lede det på norsk – gjerne med din hjelp om nødvendig. Vi vil også gi foreldre og lærere mulighet til å sende inn spørsmål anonymt.”

From Evidence to Systems: Implementing School-Based Drug Prevention in Real-World Settings

Over the past three decades, prevention science has moved well beyond the question of what works. The pressing challenge today is no longer identifying effective interventions, but ensuring their successful translation into large-scale, sustainable strategies within complex public systems.

School-based programs, particularly those grounded in social competence, life skills, and normative education, have shown consistent benefits, including reduced early initiation of substance use and lower rates of risky behaviors among adolescents. Yet the gap between controlled research settings and real-world implementation remains a central tension in the field.

This presentation addresses that gap directly. It will explore the key components of effective school-based prevention programs, the role of families and peer environments, and the importance of aligning interventions with broader prevention systems across education, health, and social sectors.

Special attention will be given to the challenges involved in scaling evidence-based programs in real-world school systems, including fidelity and adaptation, workforce training, institutional coordination, and long-term sustainability. The presentation will also draw on lessons from the implementation and evaluation of prevention initiatives in Brazil, examining their core components and structural features as a reference framework for strengthening prevention systems in other contexts.

By bridging evidence, implementation science, and public policy, this talk aims to contribute to ongoing international discussions on how prevention science can be translated into effective and equitable strategies to reduce substance-related harms among young people.

Zila M. Sanchez, PhD, is Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), Brazil. She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Prevention (Springer Nature) and serves on the board of the European Society for Prevention Research (EUSPR) and on the WHO Technical Advisory Group on Alcohol and Drug Epidemiology. Her research focuses on prevention science, alcohol and drug epidemiology, and the evaluation of school- and community-based interventions to reduce substance use among adolescents. She has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and has advised governments and international organizations, including WHO, PAHO, UNODC and UNDP, on prevention and alcohol policy.
