Olympiada Neapolis Nicosia win women’s Cyprus Cup in Nicosia; fourth consecutive Cyprus Cup title

Olympiada Neapolis Nicosia once again triumphed as winners of the women’s Cyprus Cup. It was their fourth (consecutive) victory in the competition. In Friday’s final played in Nicosia, they took a3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-15, 25-19)win over Robo Markets AEL Limassol. Olympiada’s 34-year-old American opposite Malina Terrell was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final.

As part of a grand two-day Cup Finals event held over the weekend in Loughborough, the trophy matches in the women’s and the men’s England Cup competitions were played on Saturday. Durham Palatinates rejoiced in the women’s final(pictured in the main photo; source: Volleyball England), which they won convincingly by3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-8)over Malory Eagles London to lift the trophy for the third time in the club’s history.

The men’s showdown took place on Saturday evening and offered a thrilling five-set duel. London Giants battled it out for a3-2 (25-23, 25-14, 23-25, 23-25, 15-12)victory over Malory Eagles London to claim their first crown in the history of the competition.

Scotland organized its huge Cup Finals celebration in Edinburgh the previous weekend, which lasted three days and peaked with the women’s and the men’s Scotland Cup finals on Saturday, April 18. First, the women’s showdown was pushed into the overtime of the tie-breaker before Edinburgh Jets could squeeze out a3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 25-13, 9-25, 18-16)victory over City of Edinburgh. Jets’ 28-year-old opposite Chloe Rutherford earned the MVP honors.

Defending holders City of Glasgow Ragazzi defeated City of Edinburgh by3-0 (25-14, 26-24, 25-18)to bring home the men’s Scotland Cup trophy for the 14th time. Ragazzi’s 26-year-old Nigerian striker Hilary Simon received the MVP nomination.
