(CONNECT) TheSIG Groupis set to gradually double the production capacity of its plant in Querétaro in Mexico by 2028. Astatementfrom the group based in the Swiss canton of Schaffhausen reads that the expansion is also expected to double the production capacity of packaging materials for North America.
The plans include implementing new production lines and integrating key processes into a unified workflow. SIG expects to create 40 new jobs through the expansion of its Querétaro plant while production capacity is anticipated to increase from the current 1.5 billion to 3 billion packs per year. The project plan foresees the start of the expansion in 2026 with the incorporation of new finishing technologies, followed by the implementation of a new printing line in 2027. In a second phase, strategic processes such as extrusion are expected to be integrated by the end of 2028.
“Mexico is key to SIG’s growth in North America,” Ricardo Rodríguez, President Americas at SIG, is quoted as saying. “With this plant expansion, we can double our production capacity and strengthen our operations to be more agile, efficient, and closer to our customers in the region.”
Currently, 70 per cent of the plant’s production is destined for the Mexican market and 30 per cent is exported to the United States and Canada. The expansion is intended to grow the North American market while maintaining Mexico as a priority market. ce
