A total of 215 gold medals will be awarded across 10 sports and six para sports at Glasgow 2026.

The prizemedalsset to be awarded to victorious athletes at theCommonwealth Games 2026were officially unveiled on Wednesday at a special ceremony hosted by The Glasgow School of Art (GSA).

Revealed in the presence of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward - vice-patron of Commonwealth Sport - the design marks a world-first in inclusivity, drawing inspiration from Glasgow’s iconic landmarks and its historic coat of arms.

Designed in secrecy by award-winning artist, designer and maker Militsa Milenkova, theGlasgow 2026medal adopts a striking Reuleaux triangle form, which is a distinctive geometric design that sets it apart from any prize medal seen before.

While designing the medal, Militsa Milenkova - also the GSA Artist in Residence - drew inspiration from the city’s coat of arms and rich landscape.

She also ensured the inclusion of braille - marking a first inCommonwealth Gameshistory - turning inclusivity into a tangible, lived experience rather than mere rhetoric.

Elements such as the Finnieston Crane, the venues set to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games, as well as Glasgow’s industrial heritage and cultural traditions are also all intricately woven into its structural detailing.

The Glasgow 2026 medal is one of several key visual and ceremonial elements designed by local artists.

The official Tartan of the Games comes from leading Scottish textile designer Siobhan Mackenzie, while the Longines Countdown Clock at Central Station was made by fellow GSA graduate Agnes Jones.

Meanwhile, the 74 King’s Batons that are currently touring the Commonwealth ahead of the opening ceremony in Glasgow have been designed and produced by Tim Norman of GalGael, the Glasgow-based social enterprise rooted in craft and community.

A total of 215 gold medals will be awarded across 10 sports and six para sports at Glasgow 2026 with 47 golds set to be handed out in para sports alone, making it the largest para sport programme in Commonwealth Games’ history.

The Commonwealth Games 2026 will be held across four venues from July 23 to August 2.
