Al Ahly win record-extending 17th CAVB Men’s Africa Clubs Championship title in Kigali; unbeaten in all nine matches
Perfect Al Ahly claim record-extending 17th African title unbeaten – FIVB
Egypt’s Al Ahly reclaimed the CAVB Men’s Africa Clubs Championship title with a resounding 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-22) win over Police of Rwanda in the final played on Saturday at the BK Arena in Kigali.
Al Ahly, who last won the title on home soil in 2024, remarkably won their record-extending 17th African title without dropping a set in the nine matches that they played in the entire competition.
After topping Pool B unbeaten, Al Ahly continued with their perfect record in the elimination rounds seeing off Ghana’s Kalibi Sporting Club and Morocco’s Faith Union Sport (FUS) Rabat in the Round of 16 and quarterfinals to storm the semifinals.
A 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-16) rout of compatriots Petrojet followed in the semifinals and when it mattered most, they stamped their authority with a straight-sets win over the home team Police. Police’s silver medal performance was the first one in history by a Rwandese club.

Al Ahly will now represent Africa in the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship. It’s double joy for Al Ahly after their women’s team also reclaimed the African title last month in Cairo and will also represent the continent in the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship.
Another Rwandese club Rwanda Energy Group (REG) claimed bronze after a 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17) win over Petrojet in the third-place playoff. It was the first bronze medal for REG in the history of the competition.
REG had lost by 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 17-25, 21-25) to Police in the all-Rwandese semifinal to miss out on the final.
Champions Al Ahly dominated the Dream Team led by Abdelrahman Elhossiny, who emerged the Most Valuable Player and Best Outside Hitter. He was joined by teammates Cuban Masso Alvarez Jose Israel as the Best Opposite and Abou Abd Elhalim Mohamed as the Best Middle Blocker.
Police produced Brian Melly as the Best Setter, Frank Shyaka as the Best Middle Blocker and Allain Irakoze as the Best Libero. Completing the Dream Team was REG’s Nicholas Matui as the Best Outside Hitter.
