Casablanca - European carmaker Stellantis opened a 1.6 million euro vehicle dismantling center in Casablanca, Morocco. The 6,000-square-meter center will employ 150 personnel and process as many as 10,000 used and remanufactured cars annually to resell parts and recycle end-of-life materials, creating circular economies throughout West Africa.
(CONNECT) Extending the lifespans of vehicles and parts is the first step to automotive value chains achieving circularity. To that end,Stellantis, based in the Dutch city of Hoofddorp, recently opened a 1.6 million euro vehicle dismantling center in Casablanca, Morocco to dismantle vehicles, resell parts in the company’s aftersales network and digital platforms, and recycle leftover raw materials, said a May 6press release.
“Circular Economy is a strategic priority for Stellantis in the Middle East and Africa,” said Stellantis Chief Operating Officer Middle East and Africa Samir Cherfan. “It enables us to combine industrial performance, affordability for customers, and the responsible use of resources, while securing our long‑term industrial footprint across the region.”
The center will turn as many as 10,000 used and remanufactured cars annually into parts and recycled materials. Most of those vehicles will come from insurance companies, auctions, and other end-of-life vehicle channels. At full capacity, the center will generate 150 direct and indirect jobs. Stellantis operates similar facilities in Turin, Italy and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The centers make affordable parts, optimize resource use, and create structured and traceable ecosystems that comply with environmental and other regulations, said Senior Vice President of Middle East and Africa Parts and Services Jean Christophe Bertrand.
“Circular Economy is a concrete way to deliver value to customers by extending the lifespan of vehicles and parts while optimizing resources,” said Bertrand. “We are industrializing a strategy based on the principles of the 4Rs – remanufacturing, repair, reuse, and recycling-designed to be scalable, efficient, and accessible, without compromising on quality.” ce
