Gyaneshwari Yadav was the only Indian weightlifter to win a silver at the continental meet in Gandhinagar. India’s tally also included nine bronze medals.

Commonwealth Gamesbronze medallist Lovepreet Singh was the pick of the Indian lifters on the final day of the tournament as he finished fifth in the men’s 110kg+ category with a new personal best total of 386kg (174kg+212kg).
Lovepreet Singh opened with a successful 170kg effort before improving to 174kg on his second try in the snatch. However, he could not clear 177kg in his final lift.
In the clean and jerk, Lovepreet Singh lifted 205kg on his opening attempt and then improved to 212kg after another successful lift before failing at 216kg on his third and final try.
Lovepreet Singh’s total of 386kg is 12kg more than what he lifted at the senior nationals.
Two-time Olympic medallist Gor Minasyan of Bahrain won the gold medal with 457kg (212kg+245kg). Alireza Yousefi (184kg+261kg) of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Song Yeonghwan (175kg+241kg) of the Republic of Korea completed the podium.

At the Asian Weightlifting Championships, separate medals were awarded for the snatch and clean and jerk disciplines in addition to the medals for the overall total.
Komal Kohar, competing in place of injured Olympic medallistMirabai Chanu, opened India’s account with a couple of bronze medals in the women’s 48kg event in the overall and clean and jerk sections.
Gyaneshwari Yadav followed with an overall bronze and snatch silver in the women’s 53kg category, while Ajith Narayana won bronze medals in the overall and clean and jerk standings of the men’s 71kg event.
Harjinder Kaur added a snatch bronze in the women’s 69kg category, while Sanjana won medals in both the snatch, and clean and jerk sections as well as the overall category in the women’s 77kg category.
The Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026 was held in India for only the second time. New Delhi previously hosted the continental event in 1982.
A 16-member Indian team competed at the championships in Gandhinagar.
At the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2025 held in Jiangshan, India’s two-member contingent of Dilbag Singh and Seram Nirupama Devi failed to win a medal.
