Emma Aicher ready to challenge Mikaela Shiffrin for overall World Cup Crystal Globe in 2026-27 season

Olympic downhill silver medallist, who was the overall World Cup runner-up in 2025-26, has revealed her ambitions for the new campaign in an exclusive interview with Olympics.com.

After finishing as the overall World Cup runner-up last season,alpine skiingstarEmma Aicheradmits she is ready to challenge for the coveted Crystal Globe trophy again in 2026-27.

The German came second toMikaela Shiffrinin 2025-26, as the Team USA icon bagged arecord-tying sixthoverall World Cup Crystal Globe title.

Aicher, who endedGermany's 28-year waitfor an Olympic downhill medal with silver atMilano Cortina 2026, finished 87 points behind Shiffrin.

But the 22-year-old is confident of beating the most decorated North American alpine skier in the next campaign.

"That [the overall World Cup title] will be the goal," Aicher, who also claimed team combined silver at Milano Cortina 2026, toldOlympics.comin an exclusive interview.

"It has always been the goal, even if it was a bit surprising last season that I was able to keep up with Mikaela until the end, and that things remained so close right up to the final race.

"I was able to improve quite well during the season and getting stronger race by race."

2026, where Breezy Johnson (USA) claimed victory with a winning time of 1:36.10, Emma Aicher (GER) won silver, and Sofia Goggia (ITA) took the bronze.

While the two-way battle between Aicher and Shiffrin delivered an exciting finish last season, the German also expects Italy's three-time Olympic downhill medallistSofia Goggiato pose a challenge next time round.

Goggia finished fourth overall in 2025-26, just behind Switzerland's 2026 Olympic slalom silver medallistCamille Rast, who was third in the overall World Cup standings.

"There is not only Mikaela, there are some girls, who are strong in three disciplines," Aicher said when asked if Shiffrin would be her biggest rival.
