India will be aiming for a record-extending sixth title once theSAFF Women’s Championship 2026football tournament gets underway in Margao, Goa, from Monday.

TheIndian women’s football team, 69th in the FIFA rankings, will open its campaign against the Maldives on May 25. The final will be played on June 6. All matches of thefootballtournament will be hosted at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Margao.

According to the tournament format, six teams have been divided into two equal groups. After single-legged round robin games, the top two from each group make the semi-finals.

India have been drawn in Group B of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 alongside defending champions and world No. 112 Bangladesh and the Maldives, ranked 167th.

Group A features Nepal (87th), Sri Lanka (162nd) and Bhutan (164th).

India head coach Crispin Chettri has named a 23-member squad, which includes Grace Dangmei, Manisha Kalyan, Sangita Basfore and Pyari Xaxa.

First started in 2010, theSAFF Women’s Championshipis in its eighth edition.

India, champions in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2019, dominated the regional competition before Bangladesh emerged victorious in the last two editions in 2022 and 2024. India were knocked out in the semis on both occasions.

This will mark the second time India will host the SAFF Women’s Championship after staging the 2016 edition in Siliguri, West Bengal, where the Blue Tigresses clinched their fourth title.

It will also be the second SAFF tournament to be hosted in Goa after the 1999 SAFF men’s championship, which India won by defeating Bangladesh in the final at the same venue.
