Australia began their 2026 World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Türkiye.

Türkiye are back at the World Cup for the first time since 2002, while Australia are aiming to reach the knockout stages for the first time since 2006. An opening win would put them firmly in contention in a Group D that also features co-hosts USA, who beat Paraguay 4-1 on Matchday 1.
