Defending champions SC Magdeburg face a FINAL4 rematch with Füchse Berlin, while Aalborg get an early shot at ending their Barcelona curse.

Cologne's LANXESS Arena hosts European men's handball 's season finale on 13–14 June, as the EHF Champions League FINAL4 brings together the continent's top four clubs.

SC Magdeburg arrive as defending champions, aiming to become the first side in the competition's modern era to win back-to-back titles since Barcelona in 2021-22.

The 2026 edition has the added intrigue of an all-German semi-final and a Scandinavian side that has twice been to the final and twice left empty-handed.

Stars to watch at the EHF FINAL4 2026

SC Magdeburg have been among Europe's top sides over the past four seasons, winning two EHF Champions League crowns (2023, 2025), an IHF Men's Super Globe title (2023), and two Bundesliga championships (2024, 2026). Ómar Ingi Magnusson leads their scoring charts with 86 goals in 14 Champions League appearances this season, with Swede Felix Claar contributing 68. Goalkeeper Sergey Hernandez was decisive in the 2025 final, making 18 saves as Magdeburg beat Füchse Berlin 32–26 to win their fifth EHF Champions League. In 2026, he ranks eighth among all goalkeepers in saves in the Champions League with 362 stops in 16 matches.

Füchse Berlin are the other German side in Cologne, making their third FINAL4 appearance after 2012 and 2025. Last year the Foxes reached the final for the first time in the club's history, only to lose 32–26 to Magdeburg. The semi-final rematch is the standout tie of the opening day, and their best chance of flipping last year's final result runs through Mathias Gidsel . A gold medallist with Denmark at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 , the 27-year-old right back is the most complete backcourt player in the game — the first man to win the World Player of the Year award three times in a row, claimed in January.

Barcelona are making their seventh consecutive trip to the FINAL4 hoping to capture a record-extending 13th title. Captain Dika Mem — a three-time EHF Champions League winner and Tokyo 2020 gold medallist with France — is in his ninth FINAL4, and has already confirmed he'll leave the club for Füchse Berlin in 2027, giving this campaign an added edge of finality.

Aalborg Håndbold are here for the third time after 2021 and 2024, and both previous visits ended the same way: a final defeat by Barcelona. There's a twist this year, though: they meet the Spanish side in Saturday's semi-final rather than the final. The Danish back-court trio of Juri Knorr , Thomas Arnoldsen and Mads Hoxer have been among the division's most productive all season, and veteran goalkeeper Niklas Landin — one of the most decorated stoppers of his generation and double Olympic gold medallist — gives them genuine title credentials.
