Indonesia’s Farhan won his second tournament of the year as three-time world champion Yamaguchi won her second crown in four straight finals on Sunday (14 June).

Former world junior champion Alwi Farhan earned a career second Super 500 title with a 21-13, 21-13 win over Dong Tianyao at the Australian Badminton Open 2026 in Sydney on Sunday (14 June).

The Indonesian shuttler was in rampant form in the men’s singles final, adding to the crown he secured at his home tournament at the Indonesian Masters in January. With the commanding victory, the 21-year-old Farhan brought an end to Dong’s stunning run at the tournament.

Dong, who has never made the main draw at this level, dispatched some big-name players such as Anthony Ginting and Chou Tien Chen on his way to the final.

But Farhan dictated matters from the first serve as he established an early two-point lead in the first game. The lead soon stretched to seven points (9-2) with Dong unable to make any significant inroads.

Farhan tightened his grip after the mid-game break for a near-unassailable lead of 10 points (17-7) to set up the early 1-0 advantage.

Dong made a promising start to the second game, taking an early 3-2 lead over the world No. 13 player. Although Farhan wrested the lead back, Dong did well to stay within striking distance of the Indonesian.

Farhan held a narrow three-point lead at the recess before scoring four points on the trot to assert himself again. Dong could not catch up with Farhan, who sealed the victory in straight games.

In the women’s singles final, Japan’s Yamaguchi Akane continued on her rich vein of form, securing her second title in four straight finals.

The three-time world champion beat a tenacious Pornpawee Chochuwong 22-20, 21-18, adding to her title victory at the Thailand Open in May.

While Yamaguchi opened an early four-point lead (5-1), she could not quite shake Chochuwong, with the first game going down to the wire at 20-20 before the Japanese shuttler landed the two decisive blows.

The second game was a slightly easier affair for Yamaguchi, but she still had to work hard after leading by six points at the break. Chochuwong managed to fight back to edge ahead at 13-12 only for Yamaguchi to reassert herself and take the spoils.
