It remains England’s biggest victory margin at a men’s World Cup, where Kane converted two penalties before a deflection of his heel completed the treble on 62 minutes.

In the 12 months leading up to the World Cup, the 32-year-old scored eight times in nine international appearances to bring his England goal tally to 79. He has stood alone as the nation’s record goalscorer since March 2023.
