Rutuja Bhosale, who won gold in the mixed doubles event with Rohan Bopanna in the previous edition of the Asian Games, has also been named in the squad.

Sumit Nagal and Sahaja Yamalapalli , the top-ranked singles players from the country, will lead India’s 12-member tennis squad for the Asian Games 2026 , scheduled in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

India’s men’s tennis campaign at the 20th edition of the Asian Games will be spearheaded by Sumit Nagal, who is currently 277th in the ATP rankings .

He will be joined by world No. 378 Manas Dhamne and 478th-ranked Dhakshineswar Suresh, who played a key role in India’s 3-2 Davis Cup victory over the Netherlands back in February.

World No. 24 Yuki Bhambri, India’s top-ranked men’s doubles player, is one of three specialists in the discipline alongside Paris 2024 Olympian N Sriram Balaji and Anirudh Chandrasekar.

Niki Poonacha, who has won four ATP Challenger doubles tennis titles this year, Karan Singh and Rithvik Bollipalli have been named in the reserves.

India’s Asian Games women’s squad in the singles section will be led by world No. 332 Sahaja Yamalapalli along with 396th-ranked Vaishnavi Adkar and 417th-ranked Vaidehi Chaudhari.

Experienced campaigners Rutuja Bhosale, Prarthana Thombare and 2018 Asian Games bronze medallist Ankita Raina feature in the women’s doubles team for India.

Rutuja is currently world No. 125 in women’s doubles, while Thombare and Raina are ranked 181 and 185, respectively. Zeel Desai and Shruti Ahlawat have been included in the reserves.

Indian tennis players have won a total of 34 medals, including 10 gold, in the previous editions of the Asian Games.

At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, India won two medals - one gold and a silver. Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale won gold in the mixed doubles event, while Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan settled for silver in the men’s doubles.
