Athletes to watch at 2026 Jamaican Championships

Competing on home soil always carries extra meaning for Seville, who returns to the National Stadium aiming to build on his impressive early-season form.

Just over a fortnight after clocking a commanding 9.96 seconds on the same track, he followed up with a season’s best 9.91 at the Lone Star Grand Prix in Texas.

The reigning world 100m champion headlines the opening day of the championships on Thursday, 18 June, where he will be joined by Ackeem Blake , fresh off his world record run with Jamaica’s mixed 4x100m relay team.

Jackson, a five-time Olympic medallist, comes into the women’s 100m in strong early-season form after winning her opening two Diamond League races.

She lines up in a high-quality field that includes reigning champion Tina Clayton , alongside her world champion 4x100m relay teammates at the World Athletics Relays – Thompson-Herah, Lavanya Williams and Jodean Williams.

The women’s 100m heat is also scheduled for 18 June. The semi-finals and final for the men and women’s dash will be raced a day later, to allow the stars room to focus on the half lap which begins with the preliminaries on Saturday, 20 June.

Ashanti Moore returns to the National Stadium as the defending women’s 200m champion, while last year’s men’s winner, 22-year-old Bryan Levell , is expected to miss the championships through injury. Olympic and world 100m silver medallist Kishane Thompson is also sidelined, ruling him out of the meet, which doubles as Jamaica’s trials for the Commonwealth Games which are set for 23 July to 2 August.

Tokyo 2020 Olympic 110m hurdles champion Hansle Parchment, and the world U20 champion over the women’s 100m hurdles Ackera Nugent will line up in their respective events.

Rushell Clayton, the double world bronze medallist leads the women’s 400m hurdles field.
