German and Ukrainian universities and students, Summer School in Wrocław, Poland; DAAD funding covers accommodation and meals

Summer School 2026 | Uni Jena

German-Ukrainian Summer School in Wrocław

Date: 19–25 July 2026 Location: Wrocław, Poland

How do individuals, societies, and institutions respond to crises, conflicts, and profound transformations? The Summer School “Resilience in Times of Change” brings together students and scholars from Germany and Ukraine to explore the concept of resilience from historical, cultural, political, and socio-economic perspectives.

The program focuses on questions of memory culture, displacement and exile, social transformation, cultural heritage, and the contemporary challenges facing Europe. Through interdisciplinary exchange, the Summer School offers new perspectives on resilience and its significance for societies in Central and Eastern Europe during the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

The DUHN Summer School is part of the German-Ukrainian University Network (DUHN – European Studies 4 Ukraine) , an initiative aimed at strengthening cooperation between German and Ukrainian higher education institutions within the European Higher Education Area. The network promotes exchange among students, academic staff, and university administrators, while supporting the joint development of teaching, research, and institutional structures in an international context.

Bringing together perspectives from different academic disciplines and university cultures, the program fosters dialogue among DUHN partner universities, including Friedrich Schiller University Jena and its Ukrainian partner institutions. Further information about the project can be found through DUHN – European Studies 4 Ukraine. de

This year’s Summer School is held under the motto “Political and Cultural Resilience – Concepts and Practice.”

In many academic disciplines, resilience has become a key concept for understanding how individuals, communities, institutions, and societies respond to crises, upheavals, and change. In its broadest sense, resilience refers to the capacity to withstand external shocks or long-term pressures, to adapt, recover, and transform in their aftermath.

While the term was originally associated with the natural sciences and psychology, it has increasingly gained importance in the humanities, social sciences, and economics. The Summer School brings together students and researchers from Ukraine and Germany to examine the concept of resilience from historical, cultural, political, and socio-economic perspectives.
