Jyoti moved into the women’s 48kg semi-finals after a dominant display to beat Mongolia’s Enkh Amgalan Nomundari via RSC.
Indian boxers Jyoti, Prachi and Nikhil registered impressive victories to advance at the World Boxing Cup 2026 in Guiyang , the People’s Republic of China , on Tuesday.
Jyoti secured a medal for India after storming into the women’s 48kg semi-finals. The Indian boxer produced a commanding display, forcing a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) victory over Mongolia’s Enkh Amgalan Nomundari.
Prachi delivered a dominant performance in the women’s 57kg boxing division, defeating the USA’s Deborah Grant by unanimous decision (5-0) to book her place in the quarter-finals.
In the men’s 55kg category, Nikhil edged past France’s Christopher Hippocrate in a closely contested bout, claiming a 3-2 split-decision win to progress to the round of 16.
Elsewhere, Poonam bowed out in the women’s 54kg category after a narrow 3-2 defeat to Olympic bronze medallist Huang Hsiao-wen of Chinese Taipei.
Akash also suffered a 3-2 loss against Poland’s Mateusz Urban in the men’s 75kg division, while Gitimoni exited the competition following a 5-0 defeat to France’s Maelys Richol in the women’s 70kg event.
Five Indian boxers will be in action on Wednesday.
Nikhil (55kg) will face Brazil’s Kelvy Trindade in the round of 16, while Deepak (70kg) takes on Olympian Sewon Okazawa of Japan. Malsawmtluanga (80kg) is set to meet Jordan’s Ashaish Hussein.
In the women’s draw, Saneh (65kg) will square off against the Republic of Korea’s Seon Sujin, while Mahi Lama (60kg) faces Mongolia’s Monkhor Namuun.
India skipped the season-opening World Boxing Cup stage in Brazil but finished as the most successful team in the 2025 World Boxing season, collecting 40 medals, including 13 golds, across three tournaments and the season-ending Finals.
None of the Indian boxers selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games are competing in Guiyang, where 333 boxers from 44 national federations are contesting for ranking points and medals.
The Guiyang World Boxing Cup will conclude on June 21.
