KONGSBERG Australia exports first batch of Australian-made Consoles to Europe

KONGSBERG Australia has marked a major milestone in Australia’s sovereign defence manufacturing journey, with the first batch of Australian-made Naval Strike Missile (NSM) Coastal Defence System (CDS) command and control consoles departing for Europe. This delivery is part of a NSM CDS contract previously signed between KONGSBERG and a NATO nation.

The consoles have been assembled, integrated and tested at KONGSBERG Australia’s production and maintenance facility in Mawson Lakes, South Australia. The Australian-made components and subsystems were manufactured by REDARC Defence & Space and QPE Advanced Machining in South Australia, and Eylex in New South Wales.

Managing Director KONGSBERG Australia, John Fry, said the export marked a significant achievement for both the company and Australia’s defence industry. “This first export delivery is a proud moment for our Australian team and supply chain partners, and our Global Supply Chain Program, demonstrating that Australian industry can deliver complex, high-tech defence capability to international customers while supporting sovereign capability in Australia.”

The NSM CDS command and control consoles are based on the same common hardware currently supporting the Australian Army’s NASAMS air defence capability, showcasing how Australian manufacturing expertise can contribute directly to international programs.

The NSM Coastal Defence System is a market-leading land based maritime strike capability which continues to see growing demand internationally. The NSM CDS has been selected by Poland, USA, Romania, Denmark and Latvia. The NSM has also been selected or is in-service with the navies of Norway, Germany, USA, Australia, Spain, Denmark, United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
