The 21-year-old left England’s Samuel Bennett and Cyprus’ Milan Trajković in his dust at the Scotstoun Stadium, clocking 13.17 seconds to claim gold on Monday, 27 July.

Demario Prince became Jamaica’s first gold medallist on the track at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, winning the men’s 110m hurdles final in a time of 13.17 seconds.

Slowest out of the blocks of the eight finalists at Scotstoun Stadium, Prince accelerated faster than anyone else in the final, flying towards the finish in a pace that simply couldn’t be bested on Monday (27 July) evening.

“I'm very pleased with the win,” he told reporters after the race. “In the heats, I was all over the place and didn't think I'd executed a good race, so I wanted to clean things up for the final. I'm happy with the result.”

His time marked a positive improvement on what he delivered in the morning’s heats, where he produced the third fastest time at 13.27, finishing third behind England’s Samuel Bennett (13.20) and Cyprus’ Milan Trajković (13.21).

Running clear of both athletes in the evening’s final, he passed Trajković just after the halfway mark to take the lead. The Cypriot hurdler and Bennett were left to battle for the silver as the finish approached, with the English hurdler taking those honours with a superior lean.

Bennett was confirmed as the silver medallist in a time of 13.30, while Trajković – a finalist at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 – had to settle for bronze, crossing the finish line in 13.32.

“I found myself leading after the sixth hurdle,” said Prince, replaying the race in his head. “I still think I could have finished the race a bit better, but we'll go back, practise and work on that.”

That said, the rising hurdles star was more than pleased with the final outcome in Glasgow.

“Our main goal coming here was to win, put on a show for the fans, and do it for my parents and my country. I thank God for the victory,” he concluded.

Prince’s victory bookended a night of thrilling track and field action that saw Canada’s Ethan Katzberg take gold in the men’s hammer throw, and Australia’s Rose Davies earn a sensational maiden gold in the women’s 10,000 metres.

Rwanda’s Florence Niyonkuru also became the first athlete from her nation to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games, dashing to bronze in the women’s 10,000 metres.
