Sakshi Choudhary, Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal advanced to the quarter-finals while Sumit Kundu was knocked out.
Sakshi Choudhary , Sachin Siwach and Ankush Panghal advanced to the quarter-finals of their respective boxing events at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Monday, extending India’s impressive run in Glasgow.
Sakshi produced a 5-0 win in the women’s 51kg division against Botswana’s Lethabo Modukanele at the Scottish Event Campus .
The Indian boxer made full use of her height to land in the first round. Modukanele came out aggressively in the second round but Sakshi remained composed and finished the round with a pair of solid punches.
Despite being docked a point for infringements in the final round, Sakshi sealed a unanimous-decision victory to book her place in the last eight, where she will face European Championships silver medallist Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland.
Sakshi Choudhary earned her place in India’s Commonwealth Games squad by beating Indian boxing stars Nikhat Zareen and Minakshi Hooda in the trials held in May.
Earlier in the day, world No. 5 Sachin Siwach defeated eighth-ranked William Hewitt of England by 4-1 split decision in the men’s 60kg round of 16.
Hewitt started brightly, landing a flurry of combinations to put the Indian on the back foot. Sachin, however, finished the opening round strongly with a series of heavy punches, convincing four of the five judges to award him the round.
The 26-year-old Indian boxer looked more composed in the second round, inviting Hewitt forward before repeatedly catching the Englishman on the counter.
A point deduction briefly checked Sachin’s momentum in the final round but the Indian responded with several clean power punches to do enough for a split-decision victory.
Sachin will next face Treasure Moremi of Botswana in the quarter-finals.
World No. 12 Ankush Panghal also produced a dominant display to beat Antigua and Barbuda’s Zalaan Jan by 5-0 unanimous decision in the men’s 80kg round of 16.
The 22-year-old Indian boxer made an impressive Commonwealth Games debut, controlling the contest from the outset with accurate punching and sharp hooks to sweep the contest.
Ankush Panghal will face Jade Micock of Seychelles next for a place in the semi-finals and secure a medal.
In India’s final boxing bout of the day, Sumit Kundu’s CWG campaign came to an end after he lost 4-1 by split decision against Northern Ireland’s Jon McConnell in the men’s 70kg round of 16.
Lovlina Borgohain has already secured at least a bronze medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games after receiving a direct passage to the semi-finals.
