India’s most-capped men’s player Manpreet Singh also features in the 20-member squad. The winner of the hockey tournament will qualify for the LA 2028 Games.
A 20-member Indian men’s hockey team has been named for the Asian Games 2026 , scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
Harmanpreet Singh has been named captain of the Indian hockey team for Aichi-Nagoya 2026. He will continue in his role, having led India to the Asian Games gold in 2023 and bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics .
The men’s hockey tournament at the Asian Games 2026 will be played at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara from September 18 to October 3.
It will also double up as an Asian qualifier for the LA 2028 Olympics , with the winner securing a berth to the next Summer Games in the USA.

Midfielders : Rajinder Singh, Raj Kumar Pal, Hardik Singh, Manpreet Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Vivek Sagar Prasad
Forwards : Dilpreet Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Sukhjeet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Abhishek
“The Indian squad selected for the Asian Games is very experienced,” chief coach Craig Fulton said. “We look forward to the challenge of playing in Japan where the winner qualifies for the LA 2028 Olympics and that is the ultimate goal for us as a team and as a nation.”
Mohith HS and Suraj Karkera make up the goalkeeping unit while defence will be led by captain Harmanpreet Singh alongside experienced campaigner Amit Rohidas.
India’s midfield will be marshalled by veteran Manpreet Singh, the country’s most-capped men’s hockey player.
The attack will be spearheaded by Dilpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek, with Shilanand Lakra completing the forward line.
India have been drawn in Pool A alongside hosts Japan, the Republic of Korea, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
The Indian team will open its Asian Games campaign against Indonesia on September 20 before facing Sri Lanka on September 22, South Korea on September 24, Japan on September 26 and Bangladesh on September 28.
The Indian men’s hockey team has won four gold, nine silver and three bronze medals at the Asian Games. Their titles came at Bangkok 1966, Bangkok 1998, Incheon 2014 and Hangzhou 2023.
Hockey has been part of the Asian Games since Tokyo 1958.
