CSEM and B-Secur pave the way for wearable heart monitoring

Belfast - The Swiss non-profit technology and innovation center CSEM collaborates with Northern Irish company B-Secur to equip wearable devices with clinically validated heart-monitoring capabilities. To this end, the two companies will combine their state-of-the-art sensor and algorithm technologies.

( CONNECT ) The Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology (Centre Suisse d'Electronique et de Microtechnique, CSEM ) has entered into a partnership with the Belfast-based company B-Secur . The goal of the partnership is to equip wearable devices with clinically validated heart-monitoring capabilities.

According to a statement , CSEM brings to the project more than 25 years of experience and leadership in vital signs monitoring using photoplethysmography (PPG) – a non-invasive optical measurement of changes in blood volume within the circulatory system, typically performed at the fingertip or earlobe. The method enables the detection of changes associated with the heartbeat, for example. PPG is used, among other applications, in clinical diagnostics, patient monitoring, and competitive sports.

B-Secur contributes its numerous ECG algorithms and analysis solutions, which have already been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration . This combination of expertise paves the way for device manufacturers and digital health companies to integrate more precise, market-ready cardiac monitoring solutions into their products.

It enables “a new class of multimodal sensing solutions that deliver clinically relevant insights”, said Josef Hayoz, CSEM’s Senior Manager Medtech. “This partnership reflects our commitment to translating cutting-edge sensing and algorithm technologies into real-world healthcare applications.”

The global wearables market is expected to grow from 45 billion US dollars in 2025 to nearly 76 billion US dollars in 2030, according to the statement. Clinical-grade heart monitoring is among the key drivers of this growth. CSEM, which employs more than 630 people, operates six locations in Switzerland and is headquartered in Neuchâtel. ce
