DP World Evyap partnership Türkiye; Rail moves 26,500 containers
Two Years of Strengthening Türkiye’s Connections to Global Trade
Two Years of Strengthening Türkiye’s Connections to Global Trade
By Mark Rosenberg, Executive Vice President - Ports & Terminals - Europe
Two years ago, we came together with Evyap Group for a shared ambition to create a stronger, more connected gateway for trade in Türkiye . While merging two strategically important terminals on the Marmara Sea was a significant milestone, the opportunity was always bigger than infrastructure. The real objective was to create greater value for customers by combining global expertise with local knowledge, strengthening supply chain connectivity, and supporting the region’s increasing role in international trade.
As we mark the second anniversary of DP World Evyap , I believe the most important measure of our progress is not the volume of cargo we have handled or the investments we have made but the challenges we have helped customers overcome and the stronger connections we have created between businesses in Türkiye and markets around the world.
Why Was This Partnership So Important?
Global trade continues to evolve at pace and as supply chains are becoming more complex, customer expectations are increasing. To handle this additional pressure, businesses are looking for partners with the ability to provide flexibility and long-term support, amplifying the need for connectivity now more than ever.
Türkiye occupies a unique position at the intersection of Europe, Asia and the Middle East, making it one of the world’s most strategically important trading hubs. To make a partnership like this work, you need the right infrastructure and on-the-ground expertise, and you need a suite of integrated logistics solutions that enable cargo to move efficiently between global and regional markets.
That was one of the driving forces behind the creation of DP World Evyap. By combining the complementary strengths of our Yarımca and Körfez terminals, we have been able to create a more connected network that offers customers greater flexibility and access to a broader range of services, and an ecosystem that helps our customers navigate increasingly complex supply chains with greater confidence.
Creating Value Beyond the Terminal Gate
As the world evolves and uncertainty becomes the new certainty, a notable shift in customer mindset is the search for supply chain partners to navigate the unexpected complexities and unlock new opportunities for growth in addition to efficient port operations.
This understanding has shaped our approach in Türkiye, and rather than focusing solely on the movement of cargo, we have developed solutions to simplify supply chains, making them ever-more responsive to changing business needs.
Through our strong intermodal offering, connecting sea, road and rail services, we add value for customers by creating more efficient cargo flows and reducing supply chain bottlenecks. Over the past two years, the movement of more than 26,500 containers by rail has reflected the growing demand for integrated transport solutions.
For others, the value comes from access to specialised services designed around their unique requirements. Our Container Freight Station (CFS) services provide greater flexibility in how cargo is prepared and handled, whilst our 100,000m³ of liquid storage capacity supports customers with complex storage and distribution needs. These capabilities allow businesses to consolidate services through a single partner, helping reduce their own pressures and improve operational performance.
Ultimately, the value we provide is not defined by individual assets or services, but by the outcomes they enable. Whether it is in helping customers to improve efficiency, strengthening supply chain resilience, accessing new markets, or supporting future growth, our focus remains on developing solutions around their needs and creating long-term value.
Investing in Our Customers’ Success
One of the reasons we remain cautiously optimistic about the future of trade is the pace of innovation taking place across our industry. As customer expectations continue to evolve, so too must the technology and solutions that support global supply chains.
As an organisation, we continue to invest in strengthening our capabilities around the world, from digitalisation and automation to enhanced multimodal connectivity and logistics solutions, our focus will always be on helping businesses move cargo with greater confidence and predictability.
In Türkiye, these investments are reflected in the continuous development of our operations. Building on the successful implementation of remote-controlled quay and yard crane technology at our Yarımca Terminal, we further strengthened our operational capabilities this year with the commissioning of three new remote-controlled quay cranes at our Körfez Terminal. These investments are anticipating our customers’ needs, adapting to changing market demands, and building solutions that create long-term value for the businesses that rely on us daily.
The Greatest Opportunities Remain Ahead
As we look to the future, Türkiye’s importance within global trade will only continue to grow. Its strategic location and entrepreneurial spirit position it as a critical link between regional and international markets, especially with Türkiye’s growing role as a land bridge to the Gulf.
Our role is to ensure that our solutions evolve in line with our customers’ requirements. We will continue listening closely to their changing needs, investing in the solutions that matter most and helping them navigate an increasingly complex trading environment with confidence.
Two years on from the creation of DP World Evyap, we remain convinced that the partnership’s greatest opportunities still lie ahead of us.
