The trio went 1-2-3, with Shayna Jack claiming bronze in the final race of her career and Alex Perkins taking silver.

Meg Harris won the women's 50m freestyle swimming final at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 on Wednesday (29 July), touching in 24.23 to lead an Australian podium sweep.

Alex Perkins took silver in 24.53, with Shayna Jack third in 24.57.

"The goal is to win – that's why we compete," Harris said. "I don't think I specifically had a goal in mind, but I knew what I wanted to achieve personally, and I think I exceeded my expectations."

For Jack, the bronze carried its significance.

The 27-year-old had announced she would retire after these Games, and the 50m freestyle was the last race of her career – one she left with a medal around her neck. Her career has been highlighted by two Olympic gold medal wins, five world titles and four Commonwealth Games crowns, including two relay wins here in Glasgow.

"It was a fairytale ending. A clean sweep for the 50m freestyle girls, and having my old training partner Meg Harris there, and the next generation of freestyler, Alex Perkins, there was really exciting for me," Jack said afterward. "I really struggled to contain my emotions before getting on the block, but in the end I was really proud of how I raced and everything I achieved."

The swim Wednesday was about more than results or medals, instead Jack reflected on a bigger honour that has marked her career in the pool.

"It wasn't about the time. It was just about getting up there, doing my country proud and coming away with another Commonwealth Games medal," she said. "It's been my most successful Commonwealth Games, so what a fairytale ending to my career.
