The Olympic silver medallist has penned a contract extension worth $18.8million per season to keep him with the Sharks until 2032.
Olympic ice hockey silver medallist Macklin Celebrini has signed a five-year contract extension with San Jose Sharks that will make him the highest-paid player in NHL history .
The Canadian superstar’s new deal is worth $18.8million per year , and $94million overall, and kicks in during the 2027-28 season.
Celebrini’s contract, which keeps him with the Sharks until the end of the 2031-32 campaign, tops the $18m-a-year deal signed by Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson earlier this offseason.
“I couldn’t be happier to sign an extension today,” said the 20-year-old forward, per NHL.com.
“The faith and support that the entire staff have shown me throughout the past two seasons is proof that we are building something special here.
“My teammates and I are ready to take another step toward the ultimate goal of bringing a Stanley Cup to this city and its incredible fans. I can’t wait to get going.”
Celebrini was the NHL’s fourth top scorer in 2025-26 with a franchise-record 115 points (45 goals and 70 assists).
He topped the goal charts at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics with five goals, helping Canada to the silver medal, after losing to Team USA in the final.
“In just two seasons as a teenager in the NHL and on the international stage, Macklin has established himself as one of the premier players in the world,” said Sharks general manager Mike Grier.
“We are extremely excited to have him secured and committed as the centerpiece of a core of talented players in San Jose.”
