Emmanuel Eseme, Lachlan Kennedy, Alana Reid compete in 200m semi-finals Glasgow; within 24 hours of 100m gold

Places in Friday’s final are up for grabs on 30 July as the curtain closes on Glasgow’s sprint distances.

There are storylines galore ahead of the men’s and women’s 200m semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Thursday (30 July) in Glasgow.

Cameroon’s newly crowned men’s 100m Commonwealth Games champion , Emmanuel Eseme , returns to the track after qualifying from his heat less than 24 hours after winning gold in a Games record time.

In the third heat, he will again race the man who took silver behind him in the 100m. Lachlan Kennedy smashed the Australian 100m record in the process in that event, before running a comfortable 20.50 seconds in the 200m Heat 7 to qualify for Thursday.

The fastest time in qualifying went to Jamaica’s Jevaughn Powell , clocking 20.28. He lines up in semi-final 2, facing India’s Animesh Kujur , who crossed the line ahead of Eseme in the heats.

The women’s 17 semi-finalists are just as enticing.

Jamaican pair Alana Reid and Lavanya Williams made light work of qualifying, and will line up in the first and third semi-final respectively.

Featuring in Williams’ semi-final will be three-time Olympian Anthonique Strachan , of the Bahamas. At the same time, Reid will face one of the two remaining British Virgin Islands representatives in the event, Beyonce Defreitas , who won her heat.

In the second semi-final, Singapore sprint star Veronica Shanti Pereira will line up after recording a season’s best of 23.00s in her heat.
