Parul Chaudhary finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase and Dilip Gavit led a one-two in the 100m T47. Murali Sreeshankar won the silver medal in the men's long jump at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Wednesday, marking his second podium finish at the CWG in as many editions. The 27-year-old Murali Sreeshankar, who had also settled for silver at Birmingham 2022 , produced a best effort of 8.09m to finish behind Jamaica's Tajay Gayle - a former world champion - who managed 8.15m at the Scotstoun Stadium tracks. Scotland's Stephen Mackenzie settled for bronze with 8.08m. Sreeshankar led the competition at the halfway stage before Gayle responded with the winning effort in the fourth round. The Indian athlete ’s six attempts read: 8.03m, 8.09m, two fouls, 7.94m and 7.97m. Lokesh Sathyanathan, the second Indian in the field, finished fifth on his Commonwealth Games debut with a best jump of 7.97m. The medal marked another milestone in Sreeshankar's comeback after a knee injury ruled him out of the Paris 2024 Olympics despite having secured a quota. However, he was in top form heading into Glasgow with a season's best of 8.38m. This was India's fifth long jump medal at the CWG. Sreeshankar, however, is the only one with two podium finishes. Suresh Babu (men's bronze, 1978), Anju Bobby George (women's bronze, 2002) and Prajusha Maliakkal (women's silver, 2010) are the other Indian medallists in the event. It was also India's third athletics medal at Glasgow 2026 after Sarvesh Kushare and Gulveer Singh claimed silvers in the high jump and 10000m race, respectively. India's para athletics contingent, meanwhile, added two more medals to the tally as Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil finished with gold and silver, respectively, in the men's 100m T47 final. Dilip Gavit clocked a Games record and season-best 10.71s to win the event, while Mohammed Basil followed with a season-best 10.83s, completing an Indian one-two. The victory made Dilip the first Indian man to win a Commonwealth Games para athletics gold medal. He also became only the second Indian para athlete to claim Commonwealth Games gold after Sharmila Dhankar, who won the women's shot put F57 title earlier this week. National record holder Parul Chaudhary , meanwhile, finished fifth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase race with a time of 9:26.75. Paris 2024 bronze medallist Faith Cherotich of Kenya won the event with a Games record of 9:01.76 and was followed by England’s Elise Thorner (9:05.45) and Uganda’s Peruth Chemutai (9:09.96) on the podium. India's Manpreet Kaur narrowly missed out on a medal in women's shot put, finishing fourth with a best throw of 17.49m at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Canada's Sarah Mitton dominated the competition to win gold with 19.88m. Nigeria's Jessica Oji claimed silver with 17.87m, while Jamaica's Lloydricia Cameron settled for bronze on countback after matching Oji's distance. Manpreet steadily improved through the competition, registering throws of 15.92m, 16.66m, 17.00m, 16.89m and 17.49m before fouling her final attempt. The Indian was in medal contention until Cameron produced a final-round throw to edge her off the podium. In men’s shot put, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and compatriot Samardeep Singh Gill both advanced to the final from qualification. Toor finished second overall with a best throw of 20.14m, behind New Zealand's Nick Walsh, who topped qualifying with 21.03m. Gill also progressed comfortably, placing fifth overall with a throw of 19.95m. In the men’s 200m, national record holder Animesh Kujur advanced to the semi-finals with a season-best of 20.46s after finishing ahead of Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme, who won the 100m race on Tuesday, to bag Heat 4. The Indian sprinter qualified seventh overall for the semi-finals. The top 16 athletes progressed to the next round. India's Santosh Kumar Tamilarasan and Yashas Palaksha also booked their places in the men's 400m hurdles final after advancing as the fastest non-automatic qualifiers.
