North Rhine-Westphalia funds SYNHELION in Jülich; €90 million for nine initiatives.

North Rhine-Westphalia supports SYNHELION

Jülich - The German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is funding the Zurich-based cleantech company SYNHELION as part of the “Productive NRW” program. The funding will support the development of a commercial synthetic fuel production facility at Brainergy Park Jülich.

( CONNECT ) The Zurich-based cleantech company SYNHELION has been selected to receive funding from the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. According to a statement , the Productive NRW program will support the construction of a commercial synthetic fuel production plant at Brainergy Park Jülich .

SYNHELION’s technology is one of nine market-ready projects selected by the NRW funding program. A total of 90 million euros is available for the nine initiatives. The company’s DAWN pilot plant in Jülich has already industrially validated the technology developed by SYNHELION, a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich ( ETH ). The new plant will demonstrate the technology’s operation at a commercial scale.

SYNHELION produces renewable synthetic fuels that can directly replace fossil fuels without requiring modifications to existing engines or fuel infrastructure. Its products include synthetic kerosene (SAF), synthetic diesel and synthetic gasoline. According to the company, these fuels can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 100 per cent and are particularly suited to transport sectors that are difficult to electrify, including aviation and long-distance transport.

“Being selected under the Produktives.NRW program is a strong endorsement of our technology and commercialization strategy, and we are grateful to the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for supporting our project,” said Philipp Furler, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Synhelion. “By building our next plant in Jülich, we are strengthening Germany as an industrial location for renewable synthetic fuels and contributing to a more resilient, diversified, and less import-dependent energy supply in Europe.” ce
