The Volleyball Calendar 2029-2032 is one of the key focal points of the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032 and supports the ambition to grow the number of people connected to volleyball from 800 million to 1.6 billion. Reaching that ambition depends on the success of the whole ecosystem and ensuring that every part of the sport has the opportunity to grow.
To support this work, the FIVB today continued its wide-ranging consultation on the Volleyball Calendar 2029-2032, bringing together key professional leagues and National Federations managing leagues for a detailed discussion on the current concept under development.
The session forms part of an extensive process through which every stakeholder of the Global Volleyball Movement will have the opportunity to shape the sport’s shared future. Discussions began with the Continental Confederations and are now continuing with key leagues and National Federations managing Leagues. Further sessions will be held throughout the year with clubs, coaches and athletes before the proposal is brought forward to the Volleyball World Board and then to the FIVB Board of Administration for a final decision.
Participants were taken through the current concept in detail and invited to ask questions, share their initial views and discuss its potential impact across the sport.
The concept currently under discussion is built around greater freedom and flexibility. It aims to protect dedicated periods for major national team competitions, including the VNL (Volleyball Nations League), World Cups and Continental Championships, while giving leagues more time and freedom to organise their domestic seasons. The objective is to develop a balanced calendar that prioritises athlete health and recovery, while supporting strong domestic, continental and international competitions.
The National Federations and leagues that participated in the session will now have two weeks to consider the concept and provide written feedback to the FIVB. Their contributions will be carefully reviewed as the process moves forward.
This work has been underway for the past 18 months and follows the same consultative approach used to develop the 2025-2028 calendar. Through detailed, direct and constructive dialogue, every stakeholder across the globe will have a voice, and every perspective will be heard and carefully considered in the calendar’s development.
