A promise saved the cats Guggi and Tapsi from ending up in a shelter
Throughout her life, a cat lover has lovingly cared for stray cats and her own cats. After years of frequent visits to the cat lounge at Gut Aiderbichl in Henndorf, she said to her daughters: “If I’m no longer with you one day, my greatest wish is that my cats will be allowed to carry on living at Gut Aiderbichl!”
Provision for pets is part of loving animals – The Gut Aiderbichl Pet Care Scheme
The Gut Aiderbichl provision for pets has saved many animals – whose owners were no longer able to care for them – from ending up in a shelter, being abandoned or facing other tragedies. When old age, illness or accidents change – or even end – a pet owner’s life, it can happen that the bereaved do not immediately know where to rehome their beloved pet if they are unable to keep it themselves. Ideally, in the event of such a situation, an animal will find a new home within the owner’s immediate circle; this avoids the stressful adjustment period that would otherwise occur when the owner is no longer able to care for their dog or cat in a manner appropriate to the animal’s needs.
Eligibility criteria for the Gut Aiderbichl provision for pets
Whether with or without a disability – every animal can be taken into the provision for pets and will be lovingly looked after by our experienced animal carers.
Gut Aiderbichl is transparent. You are welcome to visit animals in our care – at our Visitor sanctuaries every day, at the animals’ Home sanctuaries during sponsor meetings, or by prior appointment at our administration office.
Do cats mourn the loss of their animal and human friends?
Cats are not only people’s pets, but also their close companions and family members. If a cat’s partner or a human dies, the new situation can be a major challenge for the cat, as cats experience grief and loss in the same way as humans do.
How can a person comfort a grieving cat?
To help a grieving cat, you need to learn to understand its body language. They show their emotional distress through increased meowing, loss of appetite, changes in sleeping patterns or by withdrawing from others. Guggi and Tapsi’s familiar surroundings have changed for some time now, and naturally, the cat room at Gut Aiderbichl smells different from the environment they were used to with their late owner.
One thing is clear: love and patience make (almost) everything better
The length of a cat’s mourning period depends on how close the bond between the animal and its owner was. With plenty of patience and love, the animal carers are now supporting Guggi, the cat mum, and her daughter Tapsi to help them through their grief.
