South Africa’s hopes for medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games continue across the cycling track , athletics , and judo on Saturday (1 August).

Stars to watch for South Africa on Saturday 1 August

South Africa’s track cyclists will aim to progress through qualifying, with Mitchell Sparrow competing in the men’s sprint before the finals take place the following day. S’annara Grove will also look to secure her place in the women’s 25km points race.

On the athletics track, Zakithi Nene will headline the action in the men’s 400m final. The two-time Olympian is among South Africa’s leading medal hopes at these Games.

The women’s javelin final will feature Paris 2024 silver medallist Jo-Ane du Plessis , while national middle-distance champion Karabo More will compete in the women’s mile.

In judo, Skye Knoester and Thomas-Laszlo Breytenbach will compete in the round of 16, while Timothy Meuwsen and Aoife Coughlan continue their campaigns in the quarter-finals.
