The Paris 2024 Olympic teammates split across the line as Wales pipped England by 0.141 in a Games record 46.760, with Scotland taking bronze at home. Australia claimed the men’s title.

Wales won the women’s team sprint track cycling gold at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2026 on Thursday (30 July), holding off England in a Commonwealth Games record 46.760 at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
The final split a golden trio.
Wales’ Emma Finucane and England’s Sophie Capewell and Katy Marchant won Olympic team sprint gold together for Great Britain at Paris 2024 . On Thursday, they lined up against one another – and it was Finucane’s side that came out in front.
England opened fast, but Wales – Lowri Thomas , Finucane and Rhian Edmunds – came home the stronger to win by 0.141 and lower the Games record of 46.972 the Welsh had set earlier in the day. Rhianna Parris-Smith , Capewell and Marchant took silver in 46.901.
“I think this starts our weekend off amazingly, and anything that happens from here is just a bonus. This is what we came for and this is what we’re proud of, so it’s amazing,” said Thomas. “I am proud to be Welsh above anything else, so this means everything in the world to me.”
For England, silver came against familiar faces.
“It was a different kind of feeling, but we compete against these girls every day. I think this is the first team sprint me and Sophie have been in since Paris,” said Marchant. “It’s a special feeling, and it’s nice to bring back little special memories of things we have done in the past but also starting that new legacy, bringing in the new ones like Rhianna.”
Scotland gave the home crowd a medal to roar. Maddy Silcock , Iona Moir and Lauren Bell clocked 47.185 to beat Australia (47.779) in the ride for bronze.
Australia claimed the men’s team sprint gold. Ryan Elliott , Leigh Hoffman and Daniel Barber led from the jump to win in 42.455, holding off England, who took silver in 43.032.
“The top three teams in qualifying were all very close, and England is a very dangerous team, so we knew we had to go all out,” Hoffman said. “We ended up half a second up, which is great – and to beat the rivals of England, that’s even better.”
Trinidad and Tobago took bronze after Wales did not start the ride for third.
