The registration for the 22nd edition of the iconic race, which flags off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus every year, began on Friday.

The Mumbai Marathon 2027 will be held on January 17, the organisers announced on Friday.

This will be the 22nd edition of the iconic Mumbai Marathon , which was a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race event in 2026. The race is traditionally held annually on the third Sunday of the year.

Regarded as one of Asia's premier marathon events, the Mumbai Marathon also has other events like the half marathon and 10k runs, amongst others.

The race flags off from the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus every year.

Registration for the marathon opened on July 31 and will continue until November 5 or until all spots are filled.

The 2026 Mumbai Marathon saw over 14,000 runners compete for the first time while about 60,000 runners took part across race categories.

Ethiopian runners Tadu Abate and Yeshi Chekole won the men’s and women’s elite races, respectively, at the Mumbai Marathon 2026. Abate clocked 2:09:55 while Chekole won her race in 2:25:13.

Among Indian athletes , Sanjivani Jadhav denied Nirmaben Thakor a hat-trick of Mumbai Marathon titles in the women’s event with a time of 2:48:58. In the men’s race, Kartik Karkera clocked 2:19:55 to win the race.

The Mumbai Marathon has been held annually since 2004 but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021 and 2022.

The 22nd edition is also expected to feature some of the top runners from around the world in the international elite field.
