Commonwealth Games 2026: Andre De Grasse sends Canada into men's 4x100m relay final

The Olympic champions finished behind Nigeria in heats, with Jamaica the quickest qualifiers in the women's event at Glasgow 2026.

Andre De Grasse powered Olympic champions Canada into the men’s 4x100m relay final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday (1 August).

The 31-year-old, who is Canada’s most decorated male Olympian with seven medals, ran a strong anchor leg to help his team finish second in their heat in 38.53 seconds.

De Grasse was joined by Aaron Brown and Jerome Blake from the quartet who won gold at Paris 2024 , with Duan Asemota running the third leg instead of Brendon Rodney .

It is De Grasse’s first appearance at the Commonwealth Games since making his debut as a 19-year-old at Glasgow 2014, and he is only competing in the relay in Scotland.

Canada finished just behind Nigeria , who won the first heat in 38.46, with Australia (38.63) the third automatic qualifier.

Olympic silver medallists South Africa , anchored by Akani Simbine , were victorious in heat two with the fastest time of 38.30, with Ghana (38.40) second, and England (38.90) third.

Jamaica , with Ackeem Blake , could only come fourth but will contest the final as one of the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers, along with Kenya .

Jamaica fared better in the women’s 4x100m relay and were the fastest qualifiers for the final.

Their team of Alana Reid , Jodean Williams , Lavanya Williams and Ashanti Moore won their heat in 42.74 seconds, with Nigeria and England also qualifying in second and third, respectively.

Veronica Shanti Pereira could not help Singapore reach the final as they finished fifth.

Canada won the first heat in 43.15 seconds, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago – featuring individual 200m silver medallist Shanique Bascombe – and Australia .

The Gambia and Scotland will also contest the final as the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers.
