The Indian athlete totalled 7976 points to finish behind Paris 2024 bronze medallist Lindon Victor and Tokyo 2020 champion Damian Warner.

Tejaswin Shankar won bronze in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Friday, becoming the first Indian athlete to claim a medal in the 10-discipline event at CWG .

Tejaswin totalled 7976 points to finish behind Paris 2024 bronze medallist Lindon Victor of Grenada and Tokyo 2020 champion Damian Warner of Canada, who scored 8096 and 8036, respectively, over two days.

The 27-year-old Tejaswin’s personal best and national record of 8057 points, achieved at the Federation Cup in Ranchi earlier this year, would have earned him a silver medal at Glasgow 2026 .

Four years ago at Birmingham 2022 , Tejaswin became the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s high jump .

Tejaswin is also the first Indian track and field athlete to win medals in two different individual events in Commonwealth Games history.

Earlier this week, Tejaswin Shankar was forced to withdraw from the men’s high jump final after sustaining an injury during the competition.

However, the Indian athlete recovered in time to contest the decathlon, a discipline that has become his primary focus over the past few years.

He opened with 10.96 seconds in the 100m before producing a personal-best 7.82m in the long jump . Tejaswin followed it up with a 13.09m effort in shot put before topping the high jump standings after clearing 2.15m.

A 49.51s run in the 400m left Tejaswin second overall after the opening day’s five events with 4339 points, just 14 points behind Warner.

Tejaswin remained firmly in medal contention on the second day, finishing second in the 110m hurdles before registering a personal-best 40.44m in the discus throw to stay third overall with three points behind Warner and four adrift of leader Victor after seven events.

He then cleared 4.30m in the pole vault to finish eighth in the discipline, slipping to fourth overall with two events remaining.

In the javelin throw , Tejaswin responded with a season-best 53.12m effort to reclaim the third spot.

Heading into the concluding 1500m, Tejaswin was third overall with 7272 points, trailing Victor and Warner.

Tejaswin Shankar clocked 4:36.19 in the 1500m to finish fifth in the discipline and successfully held off England’s Sammy Ball, who finished fourth overall with 7893 points.

India’s quartet of Vishal TK, Ansa Babu, Rajesh Ramesh and Rashdeep Kaur, meanwhile, qualified for the mixed 4x400m relay final as the fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

The Indian team finished fourth in heat 2 in 3:20.98, placing seventh overall to secure a place in the medal race.

Later in the day, Yashas Palaksha and Santosh Kumar Tamilarasan finished seventh (50.37s) and eighth (51.81s) in the men’s 400m hurdles final. Both had progressed to the final as the fastest non-automatic qualifiers from the heats.
