The 20-year-old clocked 22.07 seconds to run away with the gold at Scotstoun Stadium, with Shaniqua Bascombe and Alana Reid taking the other two medals on Friday, 31 July.

Adaejah Hodge served notice in the women’s 200m athletics final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday (31 July), becoming the first female athlete from the British Virgin Islands (BVI) to win Commonwealth gold .

“It means a lot to me coming from the British Virgin Islands,” she said of the milestone.

Having the opportunity to compete on such a stage allowed her to “put my country on the map,” which she saw as helpful, joking that many people would likely be searching for the islands after her race.

“We have one of the greatest beaches in the Caribbean…I know Glasgow’s a little rainy right now, but it’s OK, it’s all sunshine and beaches over there, so come on and enjoy BVI,” she added lightheartedly.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Shaniqua Bascombe sought to author a different ending to at Scotstoun Stadium, pulling even with the eventual gold medallist off the bend, but Hodge would have none of it. She sped towards the finish line, clocking 22.07 seconds.

Bascombe settled for a podium finish, completing the half lap sprint in 22.35 at her first Commonwealth Games, and earning her first senior medal.

“I’m definitely proud,” she told Olympics.com after the race. “It’s an emotional feeling that I can’t describe at this point because I’m still in disbelief.

“It’s making me feel very motivated and very confident in myself. Now I see I have the potential to run 21, I’m very strong mentally and can perform on the senior level.”

Jamaica’s Alana Reid ran 22.56 to snag bronze by the slimmest of margins over teammate Ashanti Moore , who clocked 22.57 in turn.
