The Indian triple jumper finally climbed the Commonwealth Games podium four years after missing out by just three centimetres in Birmingham.

Four years after missing a Commonwealth Games medal by the narrowest of margins, Praveen Chithravel finally had his moment.

The Indian triple jumper won silver at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Saturday, finally addressing the heartbreak of finishing just three centimetres short of a podium at Birmingham 2022 .

"I waited for this medal for four years," Praveen told Olympics.com . "At the last Commonwealth Games, I lost the medal by three centimetres and finished fourth. This time, I won silver."

Competing in cool and challenging conditions, the 25-year-old produced a best leap of 16.58m to finish second behind Jamaica's Jordan Scott, while fellow Indian Selva Prabhu claimed bronze on his CWG debut.

It marked the second successive Commonwealth Games at which two Indian triple jumpers finished on the podium. At Birmingham 2022, Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker claimed a historic 1-2 finish - a first for Indian athletics at the CWG.

In Glasgow, Praveen admitted that his confidence for the final came from a strong qualifying round, where he needed only one jump to secure his place in the final.

"I did only one jump in qualification, 16.40m," said Praveen, who owns the national record with 17.37m. "After that, I knew I would get a medal."

With the next edition of the Games set to be hosted in Ahmedabad, the Tamil Nadu athlete has already set his sights on another podium finish.

"Hopefully, I'll do it again at the next Commonwealth Games in India," he said.
