Tanvi became only the fourth Indian women's singles player to win a BWF Super 300 or higher after PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Devika Sihag.

India’s Tanvi Sharma upset sixth-seed Nguyễn Thùy Linh of Vietnam to win her maiden BWF World Tour title at the Taipei Open 2026 badminton tournament in Taipei City on Sunday.

Tanvi Sharma, 34th in the women’s singles badminton rankings , beat world No. 21 Vietnamese shuttler 21-16, 21-16 in the final.

This was the 17-year-old Indian badminton player ’s first win at a BWF tournament after losing the finals at the 2024 Odisha Masters and 2025 Guwahati Masters BWF Super 100 events and last year's US Open Super 300.

Tanvi had defeated Nguyễn Thùy Linh at the US Open 2025 in their only previous head-to-head meeting.

The teenager is the first Indian to win the women's singles title at the Taipei Open since Saina Nehwal , who had lifted the trophy in 2008.

Her victory in Taipei also made her the third Indian to claim a singles BWF title this year after PV Sindhu at the Japan Open and Devika Sihag at the Thailand Masters.

Tanvi also became only the fourth Indian women's singles player to win a BWF Super 300 or higher title, joining an elite club comprising Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Devika Sihag.

At 17 years and 222 days, she is the third-youngest player in the world to win a BWF Super 300 title.

On Sunday, Tanvi Sharma, part of India’s badminton squad for the 2026 Asian Games , capped a dominant week, dropping just one game throughout the tournament.

She made a confident start to the final to unsettle Olympian Nguyễn Thùy Linh and race to a commanding early lead.

Although a few unforced errors allowed the Vietnamese to narrow the gap, the Indian regained her composure after the mid-game interval with controlled attacking play to take the opening game.

Nguyễn responded after the change of ends, opening the second game with a 3-0 advantage but Tanvi quickly wrested back control by dictating the rallies with a mix of precise net play and smart deception.

Tanvi then maintained her grip on the remainder of the final and despite squandering three match points, the 17-year-old held her nerve to convert her fourth opportunity and wrap up the contest in 36 minutes.
