Dodgers strike again: LA swing blockbuster trade for Detroit Tigers’s Tarik Skubal
The two-time defending World Series champions beat the trade deadline to acquire the reigning back-to-back Cy Young Award winner for a package of prospects.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have won the Tarik Skubal sweepstakes, landing the two-time defending Cy Young Award winner in a trade with the Detroit Tigers, according to multiple reports on Saturday (2 August).
Two days before the Major League Baseball trade deadline, the back-to-back World Series champions flexed their muscles once again to swing a deal for the most coveted player of the summer in the 29-year-old Skubal.
A pending free agent this winter, the reports said Skubal was traded for a trio of prospects - outfielder Zyhr Hope and pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith . The deal has yet to be announced.
The Dodgers are sparing no expenses in pursuing a third straight World Series title, something only four teams in history have managed. They would be the first National League club to do so.
Skubal has a 2.79 ERA in 16 starts this year, racking up 116 strikeouts in 96-2
3 innings. He had a procedure in late April to remove bone spurs in his left elbow but returned in six weeks and has been his dominant usual self.
In LA, Skubal joins a fantasy rotation of Shohei Ohtani , Yoshinobu Yamamoto , Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow . Ohtani, Snell and Glasnow are currently not pitching but are expected to be ready by October when it all matters.
