The USA tennis star cites the sisters’ impact on her own career, as they continue to play on the WTA tour at 44 and 46-years-old, respectively. They all played at the same tournament as recently as Wimbledon and could repeat that feat at the US Open .
But before the final Grand Slam of the season, the North American hard court swing heads to Canada for the Canadian Open 2026 . Gauff is the No. 4 singles seed, while Venus was knocked out in the first round and Serena did not enter the event.
“It’s really cool and great to watch,” Gauff said ahead of the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. “I grew up watching the Williams sisters, and the fact that there are maybe even two generations after me still being able to have that same experience is really insane.
“Just the aura they have - I still get nervous every time I see them. I remember I was in Berlin waiting for the right time to say hi to Serena. Even yesterday, Venus was in the locker room, and I had to [take] a deep breath before I said hi. It’s the aura they bring to the sport, and the longevity is really incredible for any athlete.”

Gauff has always been open to playing doubles with either sister, though the Williams sisters will be keen to reunite on the court after having to withdraw from Wimbledon at the 11th hour. This is Gauff’s first competition since the Championships.
The two-time Grand Slam singles champion has a bye into the Canadian Open second round, where she awaits the winner of Diane Parry , ranked 60th in the world, and world No. 127 Kayla Day .
