The World No. 3 won the first set of the weather delayed final, before continued rain forced the postponement of the match to Monday, 3 August.

Alexandra Eala will have all night collect herself and prepare a response to Jessica Pegula 's sensational play at the Mubadala DC Open , with the women's final suspended until Monday (3 August) due to stormy weather conditions in the U.S. capital.

Originally due to commence at 12:00 local time on Sunday (2 August), the match was delayed three hours by inclement weather, before being delayed once more after approximately 57 minutes of play due to rain.

With weather patterns remaining uncooperative into the evening, it was ultimately decided to resume the match at 12:00 local time (EDT, UTC -4) on Monday (3 August), with Pegula looking deny Eala her first tour-level title.

Finding herself on the back foot early in the match, the Filipina tennis star ceded the first set 6-4, with the North American World no. 3 converting two of three break points earned to take control of the match.

While Eala held the edge when it came to service points – winning 80 percent of first-serve points before play was paused at 2-1 in the second set – those statistics had yet to materialize on the court.

She'll hope to showcase an improved level of play on Monday, while Pegula will hope to close out the match without any more weather-related interruptions.
