Plays a bit like: Julian Brandt
A technically gifted, effectively two-footed attacking midfielder, Kömür is stylistically similar to former Borussia Dortmund playmaker Julian Brandt, preferring to operate between the lines and dictate attacks with his vision and combination play.
Born in Bavaria to a family of Turkish descent, Kömür has represented Germany at youth level, most recently earning six U21 caps, despite also being eligible for Türkiye. Before making his Germany U21 debut in October 2025, he revealed he had not been approached by the Turkish Football Federation, but said he would “give it serious thought” if the opportunity arose.
“The sky’s the limit for Mert – I’ve already told him that. He’s a very talented player; he’s got nothing to hide.” - ex-Augsburg head coach Sandro Wagner
“He’s a top footballer with exceptional skill levels.” - former Augsburg boss Jess Thorup
