Neeraj Chopra will take on a stacked javelin throw field in Lausanne, which also includes Rumesh Pathirage and Arshad Nadeem.
Former Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra will compete in the men’s javelin throw at the Lausanne Diamond League 2026 on August 21, organisers confirmed on Monday.
The meet, also known as Athletissima , will mark Chopra’s fourth appearance in Lausanne.
The 28-year-old Indian athlete won the event in 2022 with a throw of 89.08m and successfully defended his title in 2023 with 87.66m before finishing runner-up in 2024 after producing 89.49m.
However, the 2026 edition promises to be one of the strongest in recent years, with newly-crowned Commonwealth Games champion and world leader Rumesh Pathirage leading the field.
Two-time world champion Anderson Peters, and Olympic gold medallists Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, Germany’s Thomas Röhler and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago are also in the line-up.
The Lausanne Diamond League will mark Chopra’s third competition of the 2026 season after appearances at the Doha Diamond League in June and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last month.
Chopra, who returned to competition this season following a lengthy injury lay-off, heads to Lausanne after winning the Commonwealth Games silver medal with a season-best throw of 85.83m.
He finished second behind Rumesh Pathirage, who won Commonwealth Games gold with 89.75m, setting up another intriguing contest between the two in Lausanne.
Lausanne will also offer Chopra another opportunity to end his title drought.
The Indian, whose national record of 90.23m was set at the Doha Diamond League last year, has not won an international competition since the NC Classic in July 2025.
His best results since then have been runner-up finishes at the Diamond League Final 2025 and the Commonwealth Games 2026.
