Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Krishna Prasad Garaga beat the Thai fourth seeds at Korea Masters 2026 in Asan; World No. 118 upends seeds

Korea Masters 2026 badminton: Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy-Krishna Prasad Garaga stun fourth seeds in opening round

The world No. 118 pair produced India’s biggest win of the opening day, while Tushar Suveer fell one win short of the men’s singles main draw.

India’s men’s doubles pair of Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Krishna Prasad Garaga stunned fourth seeds Worrapol Thongsa-nga and Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn of Thailand in the first round of the Korea Masters 2026 badminton on Tuesday.

Ranked world No. 118, Roy and Garaga pulled off a 21-16, 21-18 win over the 48th-ranked Thai duo in 42 minutes to advance to the second round of the BWF Super 300 badminton tournament in Asan.

The Indian badminton players recovered from a 12-10 deficit in the opening game, winning 11 of the next 15 points to seize control.

The second game was more closely fought as the Thai pair overturned a four-point deficit to lead 18-16.

However, Roy and Garaga responded with five consecutive points to complete the straight-games victory.

On the opening day, India also had representation in the men’s singles qualifying draw through Tushar Suveer.

The Indian shuttler opened his campaign with a 21-15, 21-12 win over Canada’s Shaurya Gullaiya before losing 21-10, 21-17 to Shogo Ogawa of Japan in the qualifying final, falling one victory short of a place in the main draw.

Elsewhere, Arjun Reddy Pochana and Achutaditya Rao Doddavarapu were beaten 21-3, 21-10 by second-seeded South Koreans Choi Sol Gyu and Goh V Shem in the men’s doubles first round.

In the women’s doubles, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra lost 21-15, 21-13 to Japan’s second-seeded Ririna Hiramoto and Kokona Ishikawa in the opening round.

India’s top singles players will begin their campaigns on Wednesday, with recently crowned Taipei Open champion Tanvi Sharma and former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth set to be in action.
