Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food upgrades information system for monitoring agricultural land in Croatia using 90 permanent stations; EUR 1.7 million investment.

Upgrade of operational information system for monitoring agricultural land and establishment of 90 permanent stations to monitor the condition of agricultural land

The programme for the permanent monitoring of agricultural soil conditions in Croatia, established by the Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food, operates through a network of 90 precisely defined monitoring stations with a three‑year sampling cycle. Standardised sampling and analytical methodologies ensure the systematic generation of comparable data on soil exposure to key threats identified in the European Commission’s Thematic Strategy for Soil Protection, including the decline of organic matter and biodiversity, erosion, pollution, compaction, salinisation and landslides. The data collected through this framework is integrated into an upgraded IT system and subjected to expert analysis, thereby providing a robust, evidence‑based foundation for more effective soil protection measures. This monitoring framework enhances Croatia’s capacity to contribute to EU‑wide soil health objectives, supports alignment with future EU soil legislation, and reinforces the transition towards more resilient, climate‑smart and sustainable agricultural systems.

Total value of the investment is EUR 1.7 million.
