Haizea Wind Group delivers largest monopiles ever manufactured in Southern Europe to Ørsted

They will support the turbines for Hornsea 3, the world’s single largest offshore wind farm, located in the North Sea. The project will have a capacity of 2.9 GW and will supply clean energy to more than 3.3 million UK homes.

The monopiles have a diameter of 11 metres, a length of more than 105 metres and a weight exceeding 2,300 tonnes.

They are the largest structures ever manufactured in the Iberian Peninsula and rank among the largest monopiles ever manufactured in Europe.

Bilbao, 6 August 2026. Haizea Wind Group, a global leader in the manufacture of wind towers, has delivered to Danish renewable energy company Ørsted monopiles destined for the world’s single largest offshore wind farm, located in the North Sea.

Monopiles are foundation structures installed on the seabed to support offshore wind turbines. Owing to their dimensions, they are the largest structures ever manufactured in the Iberian Peninsula and rank among the largest monopiles ever manufactured in Europe. They have a diameter of 11 metres, a length of more than 105 metres and a weight of approximately 2,300 tonnes. Haizea Wind Group is the only manufacturer in Spain capable of producing structures of this size and even larger.

The preparation and load-out operations for these structures involved the participation of Grúas Aguado, Haizea Wind Group’s logistics partner. The company collaborated in the transportation and preparation of the monopiles within the facilities of the Port of Bilbao, a key phase in ensuring the success of an operation of considerable complexity due to the extraordinary size and weight of the components. All logistics activities were also carried out in collaboration with Cadeler, responsible for the load-out and load-in operations, and Mammoet, which handled the transport of the monopiles using SPMTs ( Self-Propelled Modular Transporters ).

Ørsted is one of the world’s leading offshore wind energy developers and operators and is currently building the world’s largest offshore wind farm, Hornsea 3, in the North Sea, approximately 120 kilometres off the coast of Norfolk. With a capacity of 2.9 GW, the project will provide clean energy to more than 3.3 million UK homes once fully operational.

Today, Haizea Wind Group’s facility at the Port of Bilbao covers more than 200,000 square metres and includes six production halls and a storage area for towers and monopiles. The plant employs more than 900 people.

Following the expansion of its facilities at the Port of Bilbao, Haizea Wind Group has established itself as the global leader in the manufacture of monopiles for wind turbines exceeding 15 MW. The Group is also Europe’s leading manufacturer of large offshore wind towers, having supplied projects such as East Anglia One and Dogger Bank (United Kingdom), Borssele 1 & 2 and Hollandse Kust Zuid (the Netherlands), Hornsea Two (United Kingdom), Seamade (Belgium), Saint-Nazaire and Saint-Brieuc (France), and Hywind Tampen (Norway), among others.

Haizea Wind Group was established in 2017, building on the foundations of two existing companies, Grupo WEC and Tecnoaranda. In 2018, production began at Haizea Bilbao, the offshore wind tower manufacturing facility located at the Port of Bilbao, led by a team of highly experienced professionals with the ambition of becoming a benchmark supplier for the European offshore wind industry.

Today, Haizea Wind Group operates through three business units: wind towers, offshore foundations and large castings for the wind industry. The Group employs more than 1,500 people and, in 2025, achieved revenues of more than €400 million and a net profit of €20 million, representing an 11% increase compared to the previous year.
