One Hundred Ladakh - Trail to Heaven 2026: Schedule, route and race categories

The One Hundred World Championship race returns to Ladakh this week with athletes competing across the 100-mile, 100km and trail marathon events.

The One Hundred Ladakh - Trail to Heaven 2026 will be held from August 6 to 8, with athletes competing across the 100-mile, 100km and trail marathon races in the Indian Himalayas.

The event, part of the One Hundred World Championship 2026 calendar, is expected to feature a combined field of 100 runners - 20 in the 100-mile race, 30 in the 100km event and 50 in the trail marathon.

Ladakh - Trail to Heaven also serves as one of the final qualifying races for the One Hundred World Championship Grand Final in Brazil from November 12 to 16.

The One Hundred World Championship is a global endurance trail running championship series. It unites ultra-distance races across different continents into a single competitive series.

India’s Rao Shashwat won the inaugural edition of Ladakh - Trail to Heaven last year in 33 hours and 36 minutes, becoming the first athlete to complete the race, while Italy’s Francesca Canepa claimed the women’s title in 37 hours and 32 minutes.

Held largely above 3500 metres, the races follow sections of the Markha River valley through Leh, Shang Sumdo and Stok, with competitors tackling long climbs, technical descents and high-altitude trails.

The event is also part of the One Hundred Gold Slam, alongside the Costa Rica 200 and Grand Trail du Cro-Magnon.

One Hundred Ladakh - Trail to Heaven 2026 route

The 100-mile and 100km races both start and finish in Leh.

The 100-mile course covers 165.69km, featuring 6704m of elevation gain and 6719m of descent, with five aid stations along the route.

The 100km race spans 111.41km, with 4633m of climbing and 4304m of descent, passing through two aid stations.

The trail marathon starts at Shang Sumdo and finishes in Stok. The course measures 39.52km, with 1921m of elevation gain and 2208m of descent, and includes two aid stations.

All three races pass through sections of the Markha River valley, with routes set against the backdrop of peaks rising above 7000 metres.

Competitors will race on a mix of mountain trails, rocky terrain and high-altitude tracks that make Ladakh - Trail to Heaven one of the most demanding stops on the One Hundred World Championship circuit.
