Athletics: Shericka Jackson headlines stacked 200m field at Lausanne Diamond League

Officials for the event believe the second-fastest woman ever in the 200m could eclipse the 31-year meeting record on 21 August.

Organisers for the 2026 Wanda Diamond League meet in Lausanne (Switzerland) are anticipating a historic finish in the women’s 200 metres.

The forecast calls for speed, and lots of it at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise on 21 August.

Shericka Jackson (Jamaica), Shaunae Miller-Uibo (Bahamas) and Great Britain’s Amy Hunt were all named to the field on Monday (3 August).

Jackson, the second-fastest woman in the 200m , is trying to win her third Diamond League event of the season, and in the process, Jackson could also own the meeting record for the fastest 200m time by the end of the event.

Merlene Ottey , the three-time Olympic silver medallist, has held the record since 1995, when she ran the half lap in 22.07 seconds.

Jackson, who won gold in the 4x100m at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 , comes into the event having already run a 21.87 on 23 May when the Wanda Diamond League was in Xiamen, People’s Republic of China.

While the full field has not yet been revealed, the three aforementioned sprinters provide more than enough speed to create the expectation for a fast event.

It will be the Jamaican’s third race in the series after opening her season with wins over the half lap in Shaozing

Kegia and Xiamen stops in the People’s Republic of China .

In July, Jackson a five-time medallist across four different disciplines at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 arrived in Eugene fresh from securing the national 100m crown but could only manage sixth place at the Prefontaine Classic, won by American Melissa Jefferson-Wooden .

The 32-year-old, whose personal best of 21.41 seconds makes her the fastest woman alive, will face Miller-Uibo , a two-time 400m Olympic gold medalist who is competing full-time again after giving birth to her son and daughter in 2023 and 2025, respectively.

Miller-Uibo, the 2022 world champion will look to better her personal record of 21.74 from 2019. Hunt, the world silver medallist will also line-up for the women’s 200m.

Should Jackson hold off the rest of the field in Switzerland, then she’d make a strong case to qualify for the Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels on 4-5 September.

Lausanne is the 12th leg on the road to Belgium.
