Eugene Diamond League winner Taylor looked composed and determined in the men’s 100m semi-finals, clocking the fastest time in 10.06 seconds.

Can anyone deny the United States’ Tate Taylor the world under-20 title in the Eugene?

That’s the question on track fans’ minds after the 18-year-old rising star topped the men’s 100m semi-finals at the World Athletics U20 Championships 2026 .

Striding down the home stretch at Hayward Field, Taylor powered to the finish line in a time of 10.06 seconds on Wednesday (5 August).

His time was 0.07 faster than heat one winner Marko Ferreira of South Africa at 10.13, and 0.10 better than heat two winner Gary Card of Jamaica at 10.16, Team USA’s Kyler Brown also clocked 10.16 in fourth overall.

“Semifinal race was pretty good,” Taylor told the press. “We got down when we wanted to get down, but there is a little other things slacking. So tomorrow, we are going to put it all together.”

Ferreira, seeded second heading into the final, was more critical of his semi-final performance. “Well, it was not the race I wanted,” commented the South African.

“I did not execute the way I wanted, but I am on to the final and that is all that matters,” he added. “The pressure is a lot more than the semifinal, but I could handle it. I think we can bring back a lot of medals.”

Jamaica’s Card was a cooler customer after his semi-final win, admitting to some slight fatigue after running two races in a single day. “The preparation was very hard to say the least, but you know, that’s why I do it. I felt great from the start today.”

Great Britain’s Jake Odey-Jordan (10.24), Botswana’s Wazha Matakule (10.28), Belgium’s Bright Otiora , Malaysia’s Danish Muhammad Roslee (10.36) and Slovakia’s Richard Machata (10.38) are set to join the four fastest men in the final.

That race will take place 20:50 local time (UTC -7) on Thursday (6 August), following the women’s 100m final.
