Korea Masters 2026 badminton: Anmol Kharb bows out in second round; Tanvi Sharma enters quarter-finals

India's Anmol Kharb 's Korea Masters 2026 badminton campaign came to an end in the pre-quarterfinals after a hard-fought three-game defeat on Thursday.

Competing at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium, Anmol Kharb, 45th in the women’s singles badminton rankings , exited the BWF Super 300 badminton tournament after a 23-21, 15-21, 21-18 loss against Olympian Vũ Thị Trang of Vietnam.

Anmol Kharb was in control for much of the opening game but squandered four game points, allowing Vũ Thị Trang to snatch the early advantage.

The Indian badminton player then responded strongly in the second game by capitalising on her 11-9 lead at the interval to level the match and force a decider.

In the deciding game, Anmol Kharb found herself trailing 19-9 before mounting a late surge with eight consecutive points. The comeback, however, came a little too late as Vũ Thị Trang held her nerve to close out the match and move into the next round.

Meanwhile, fresh off her title triumph at last week's Taipei Open, Tanvi Sharma continued her impressive run by defeating Shriyanshi Valishetty 21-16, 17-21, 21-13 in an all-Indian pre-quarterfinal.

After falling behind 11-7 in the first game, Tanvi Sharma wrested back control with sharp movement and attacking strokeplay, reeling off a string of points to clinch the opener.

Shriyanshi Valishetty hit back in the second game by racing to an 11-6 lead at the interval. Tanvi Sharma briefly threatened a comeback by trimming the deficit, but Shriyanshi Valishetty held her nerve to win the second game and force a decider.

The deciding game, however, saw Tanvi Sharma in control from the outset as she edged into an 11-9 lead at the interval before pulling away decisively, conceding just four more points en route to sealing victory in 57 minutes.

India’s Ashmita Chaliha and Rakshitha Ramraj also joined Tanvi Sharma in the women’s singles quarter-finals.

Ashmita Chaliha beat home favourite Kim Min-ji 21-17, 21-6, while Rakshitha Ramraj defeated Japan’s Manami Suizu 22-20, 21-10.

However, fifth seed Isharani Baruah and Mansi Singh’s Korea Masters campaign came to an end.

Isharani Baruah lost 17-21, 21-18, 21-19 against Kim Min-sun of the Republic of Korea, while Mansi Singh suffered a 21-12, 14-21, 21-17 defeat against fourth seed Han Qianxi of the People’s Republic of China.
